Days Eight and Nine

Before I launch into my Drifunkmas report, I feel it necessary to tell you how happy I am to be warm and comfortable sitting on the couch.  I have a blanket covering my legs and a martini sitting in front of me.  No amateur night for this lady.

Last night's drink was chosen out of desperation, although I rather enjoyed it.  Number Eight:

Capital Punishment

1/2 oz. Jim Beam Bourbon
1/2 oz. Amaretto

I would not have anticipated ever seeing these two ingredients together, but I'm beginning to realize through this particular round of Drifunkmas, that you really never can tell how two liquors are going to mix.  I really enjoyed this shot.  The liquors mellowed each other completely, making it a smooth, quick blast of flavor.  Mike did not agree, but I must offer up a disclaimer.  Mike's nightly cocktail is what he calls a "No Fashion".  Mike's version of heaven, aside from me of course, is cherry juice and bitters topped with Jim Beam and a triple-cherry toothpick.  To him, it was too sweet.  Oh well.  You can't please everyone.

Tonight's drink was fun.  We decided to enjoy it down at 20 Main.  I probably should have planned out the shot, but I decided to fly by the seat of my pants.  Sierra joined us while we sipped a beer, perusing drinksmixer.com for the night's shot.  What we came up with was quite appropriate for the last day of the year...

No Regrets

1/2 oz. Jose Cuervo Gold
1/2 oz. Baileys

Now I know that I said that I wanted to move away from Baileys, but with the name of this shot and today's date, I really couldn't resist.  We all talk about and make New Year's resolutions as though we need to change.  Yes, change is good, but we should also recognize that the experiences that we had in 2013, both the good and the bad, help shape who we are.  For that we should have no regrets.  Enjoy, cheers, and stay safe!

Climate Change

After a very relaxing (although Mike had to work) four-day stay with my parents in Lake Placid, we are back home to enjoy the cooler climate of our own humble abode.  They had the thermostat set at 75 degrees.  That's up 10 from the warmest winter days in our house.  I could have napped all day.  Add the amount of food and drink that we consumed, and we had one hell of a challenge on our hands.  Mom and I did manage a refreshing walk around Mirror Lake yesterday that brought us back to the condo with huge smiles on our faces.  Thanks for sharing your vacation, Mom and Dad!

That being said, I decided to take last night off and simply enjoy the drink:

Black Russian

1 1/2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Kahlua

This one is a shot, or a drink, that many folks are aware of.  I have had it over ice as a sipper.  It was a little different as a shot.  Not bad, just different.

Tonight kind of embodied the other half of what I think of as a White Russian, or is it a Mudslide?  Kind of pitiful that I don't really know, but I don't feel like researching right now.

Lube Job

3/4 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. Baileys

It was good, but I feel like I'm ready to move on from Baileys and Kahlua at this point.  Perhaps I should consider putting some Tequila or Bourbon into play.   Cheers!

Day 5

I'm tired.  So much food.  So much fun.  So much pretending I'm younger than I really am.  Today brought games, sledding, eating, drinking, jacuzzi soaking... you name it, we did it.  In the midst of all of those activities, there was the celebration of the fifth day of Drifunkmas.

Blue Kamikaze

1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Blue Curacao
1 oz. Lime Juice

Clearly my sister has mad photo-bombing skills, and my son has crazy gingerbread cookie skills that truly embrace the spirit of Drifunkmas.  Unfortunately however, the shot itself was my least favorite thus far.  I knew just from looking at the ingredients that the amount of lime juice was way over the top.  It was all I could taste.  It wasn't a total bomb with everyone though because my brother seemed to like it.  It was just a small hitch in our giddy up.  We will sleep, regroup and slay tomorrow's beverage!

Oh What fun it is to....

Holy cow.  What a fun day.  As with last year, Mom and Dad decided to use their week at their Lake Placid Club condo.  As with last year, it is fun!  I admit that I have inadvertently targeted my mother.  Hey, she's married to my dad.  She must be able to take it, right?  Today brought my sister, Lance and Trey to the condo.  We didn't laugh...much.  It started well before tonight's shot, but this is what I can report:

Oil Spill

3/4 shot Goldschlager
1/4 shot Jagermeitster (carefully layered atop the Goldschlager)

It was an interesting shot.  I really didn't taste the Jager.  Mom really didn't taste the Goldschlager.

Although she isn't showing a positive response to the Oil Spill, I think, in the long run, she was quite smitten with the alcohol that she consumed. (See evidence below as she and my sister peruse the "Fart App" on her phone)

Clearly, there was plenty of fun (farts) to be had.  Sorry, Mae, you missed out yet again.
She wasn't the only one.  Poison Pineapple was consumed by everyone...I'm just picking on my mother!  Cheers!

Christmas Miracle

Staying true to the unintended trend that I started with the Orgasm two nights ago, I decided it would be best to grant a Christmas Miracle...

Blow Job

1 oz. Kahlua
1 oz. Baileys
Top with whipped cream

What fun!  Check this out:

Yeah.  We didn't have enough shot glasses to go around, so Mom thought this measuring cup would work well for her Blow Job.  Well done, Mom!

She makes us all so proud!

Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

Twas the Night Before Christmas

I sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed last night's Orgasm as much as Mike and I did.  We found it to be quite sweet, but very satisfying.  Just try not to giggle.  I have to admit though, that Orgasm turned me into a...

Red Headed Slut

1 oz. Cranberry Juice
1/2 oz. Peach Schnapps
3/4 oz. Jagermeister

This is definitely an appropriately named shot.  My initial contemplation of the ingredients did not leave me hopeful.  Cranberry juice is about it for me as far as appeal goes.  Jager is way too nasty alone and peach schnapps is disgustingly sweet.  The three ingredients together are completely different.  Nothing stood out as being disagreeable .  It was smooth, and reminded Mike of a Woo Woo (another delightful shot).

So far we seem to be enjoying the twist we put on Drifunkmas this year.  Shots are good.

Drifunkmas 2013

I am truly ashamed at my lack of dedication as far as writing goes.  When I saw that my last post was published in December of 2012, I hung my head.  For shame!  OK, I'm over it.

It's here!  It's here!  Drifunkmas is here once again.  For those unfamiliar with the meaning of Drifunkmas, you only need to look back to other posts about this fine, yearly event.  I wasn't even sure that Drifunkmas would occur this year.  You see, Mike wasn't supposed to travel this December.  He was supposed to stay nice and cozy in our humble abode because he was going to be doing all of his travel during the warm-weather months.  This fell through, resulting in his being offered a replacement gig right before Christmas.  Luckily though, it was only for 9 days instead of 14.  In the end though, his absence at this time of year is brutal.  The benefit of his trip this year is the continued tradition of 12 different drinks over 12 days, accompanied by a renewed appreciation for each other's company.  I thought I'd change it up though.  This year we are doing shots.  That's right, shots.  12 shots in 12 days.  You dig?

Those who know my sense of humor and the story behind Drifunkmas should not be surprised to discover the name of the first shot...

Orgasm

1 oz. Baileys Irish Cream
1 oz. Amaretto liqueur
1 oz. Kahlua coffee liqueur

Just think of how much fun it is to look someone straight in the eye before you drink it and say, "I'm having an Orgasm!"  As a matter of fact, when I told Dale and Joe, the friendly proprietors of Adirondack Spirits right here in lovely Au Sable Forks, Dale quickly stated, "I want one of those!" to  which I replied, "Don't we all?"

Mike and I enjoying!  So good to have him home!!!

Check out those "Nuts on Clark"!

Cheers, everyone!  It is officially Christmas!
